A little bit of random

Sorry in advance for this very wordy post!

I've been doing hair for about 8 years now.  Well, legally anyway.  My first day of beauty school, I was filled with excitement that can only be equalled with my very first day of school, ever.  You know, kindergarten?  Let me refresh your memory of went down that day:

How about that haircut, huh?!  I'm telling you, I've always had style to be admired, for sure.  Basically, I've suffered from extreme emotional outbursts from the unknown.  My excitement this first day of kindergarten proved to be just too much for me to handle, and when I realized my dad was leaving me there alone to deal with this new adventure, BY MYSELF, tears burst through those baby blues of my mine and I went running to keep him there.  Well, to say the least the local newspaper was there to catch this little jem for me and published it on the front page news.

Back to first day of beauty school.  The day was full of business stuff.  You know, filling out the last of the paperwork, going over the school handbook and signing your life away to say you'll do everything they tell you, and getting your kit.  The much anticipated kit.  I tell you, this was like every Christmas and birthday of my whole 21 years put together and given to me all at once.  I LOVED it!!  I carefully went thru every little box and bag, with my other classmates, to make sure I had everything listed.  Brushes, combs, 2 different capes, blow dryer, curling irons, scissors, razor, and some crazy contraption I had to put together not knowing what it was.  I looked around curiously to see if anyone else had the same confusion I had.  It seemed to me everyone else was let in on this bit of information as to what this was so I just followed suit and started to copy the girls around me.  It appeared to be some sort of torture devis, but I wasn't sure.  I mean, it had a crazy clamp on it! Then, there it was, all assembled it became clear.  It was my mannequin stand!  Wait, where is my mannequin?!  Certainly this school wasn't going to throw me right into it with real human clients from the beginning!  I mean, I knew I had talent and I was going to rock that school, coming out with the envy and admiration of everyone because really, I was only there for the technicality of getting my license.  I was already a really good hairdresser.  I had been cutting my friends' hair, as well as my own, for like my whole life!  After letting us all peruse thru our swag, one of the instructors announced that our time was just about up for the day and we would be given our mannequins tomorrow before we got started.  Phew!  the relief!

The next morning, we were given our mannequins and a quick lesson in shampooing.  We were then to start the practicing of this skill.  As I was unwrapping my head, I overheard some talk of lice.  EW!  I did not want to start the talk of such disgusting creatures.  Well, sure enough, as I was fingering the hair of my beautiful "Viola" I noticed a bunch of white little dusty stuff in the hair.  Lice.  Yup, my doll head had lice!  It started a brief explanation from Stephanie (my instructor).  I guess some of the hair, before undergoing many various treatments, does pick up lice.  But I was assured it had all been treated and was in fact dead, which is why we all had to wash the heads before starting anything on them.  Ew, ew, EW!!!  I still get the chills.

That was my last encounter with, The Lice, until about 2 months ago.  My brother brought my niece over so I could check her hair.  He thought she had dandruff, but nothing was working to stop her itching.  As I checked through her hair, I froze.  There was that familiar sprinkling of nits all over.

After applying the special treatment (which you can get at any local Walgreen's, or the like) I had to rake thru her hair to remove the now-dead lice and their nits.  ICK!  As the combing commenced, I could see more and more of the pesky little bugs.  I had never seen an actual louse, just their eggs, so this was really grossing me out.  They are so tiny, and they move incredibly fast which is why you wouldn't be able to actually see a louse in one's hair, just the eggs (which are the white things you see above)  Just to show you how tiny these creatures are here is a picture of one on the head of a Q-Tip:

For days I felt crawling all over my body.  I did the treatment on myself, just to play it safe.  I made my mom check my hair and scalp for about two weeks before I started to feel a sense of calmness and relief. Lice is not something to be casual about!  They are disgusting little bugs that feed off of human blood and they hide amongst your hair, and they are very easily transferred from one head to the next!   It doesn't matter how clean a person is, no one is immune to lice!  So, be careful out there and don't share your hairbrushes and combs with others!

I Know, It's Been a Long Time...

I know, I know, I know...  I know what all 3 of you are thinking:  What happened to Sabrea?!  I'm still alive, I assure you.  I have not been held captive against my will; I have not entered rehab; I have not joined some elusive cult; I certainly have not intentionally boycotted blogs, for I most definitely have been following (read: stalking) your blogs.  I just have not felt that familiar pang of inspiration (read: motivation) to write.  Not even a word, not one single solitary word.  So here is my apology and attempt to at least let you know I am still here, alive and kicking!  Yes, kicking.

I won't be writing all about my life in this post, but be forewarned: There will be many a-long posts to follow soon!  Much has happened in my absence from this here blogging world.  In fact, to give you a visual teaser, have you, I will even post a few pictures to get you excited about what you will soon have the pleasure of reading all about

Yes, I know, I am a horrible blogger.  I hope to be back soon!

Just to give you a little something to nibble on: I dropped my phone in toilet while cleaning.  Ew.  Nuff said.  Now I have to wait an additional week and a half to the already week waited to get new phone.  Have I mentioned I hate waiting?

A Moment of Contemplation

As I was sitting in Sacrament Meeting today during church, I found myself having a renewed desire to start again reading the Book of Mormon.  Not just read again, but really study it.  I want to study by subject, and cross reference to really become more familiar with the BoM.  I sometimes get a little embarrassed when I don't know more details or even general references in the stories, especially since I have been born and raised with the Gospel.  So, that's gonna stop right here.  I think this year presents the perfect opportunity for me to take on this area of study considering the fact that in Relief Society/Priesthood we are studying Gospel Principles.  Perfect, right?!  I think so!

If you'd like to join me, but don't have a Book of Mormon of your own, just visit this address:  www.mormon.org  and click on "request a copy", it's free!

BTW, on Saturday I really really needed to do my color retouch, but was super tired after work and didn't want to put the time in to do my hair.  That was a problem though, because if I didn't do my color on Saturday, then I probably wouldn't get to it for another two weeks.  I couldn't do that to myself, my roots were awful!  So, as I stood there by the front desk contemplating whether or not to do my roots, Shalise asked if I was finished and what I still doing there.  I explained my predicament, and she offered to put my color on for me if I wanted her to.  I decided that would give me a little rest before I hopped on my bike to go home, so I accepted her generous offer.

As soon as she finished applying my color, and I finished cleaning the bowl and brush, I looked at the time.  Did I really want to sit there for 30 more minutes and then BEG someone to shampoo my hair?  No.  What did I do?  I picked up my bag, put a towel around my neck on my shoulders to catch running color, and I hopped on my bike and rode home.  Yup, I rode my bike home with color on my hair, hahaha!!

I called my mom to tell her what I did and to laugh at myself a little bit.  She, of course, was out front waiting for me with a camera as I rode up to the house.

ps  I'm never wearing those jeans or shirt EVER again.  I look really fat!!!

I don't want to die. But, if that's my only option, I choose the bullet.

Well, I did it.  I bought my bicycle, and I LOVE it!!!  The kind people of Bicycle Haus in Scottsdale, AZ were so kind and helped me tremendously when choosing which bike would be best.  I decided finally on the Nirve Wispy Cruiser.  Seriously?  It is rediculously cute.  AND, I added a bell and a basket to the front.

I have started riding it to work which has been an adventure to say the least.  Lets just put it this way: no matter which route I decide to take, on whichever day it might be, I still have to go through a bit of ghetto to get there.  So, I decided since there was no other way around it, I should choose to go the way around the temple.

The first day I had my bike, I decided to take a test ride to work, just to clock about how much time I was going to need to plan for my commute to work.  Well, since I live only about 1.5-2 miles away from said location, I figured it would take me at most twice as long as it would take to drive, which would be about 20 minutes.  And that's figuring adding a little bit of time considering traffic and whatnot (yes, I just said whatnot).  Well, I would be wrong.  IT TOOK ME ABOUT 40 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!  WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!  Well, this was just not going to work for me.  Not only did it take far too long, but I felt like my legs were going to fall off.  How could this be?  It's not like I rode super hard, or for that matter, it wasn't like I just finished a tri-athelon!!!  Well, because I was so exhausted, I decided to take the most direct route home, regardless of how much traffic I might encounter.  I didn't care.  I just wanted to get home and take a shower and lay down.  This leg of my trip took me only about 15 minutes!  How on earth did I shave so much time off?!  I didn't pedal really fast or hard, I was too sore and tired.  I didn't use magic to "blink" my way back.  I don't think I even read the clock wrong or just forgot ( I know this because to make sure of this, I texted people at specific parts of my journey so I could go back and check my timing).

Well, because of my serious problem of time here, I decided there was really only one choice I had here. Riding my bike by the temple on side roads was no longer an option.  I had to ride my bike on University, with little to no bike lane, and just pray that the drivers passing me would slow down around me so as not to knock me over with the wind they create by going so fast.  Or just stay far enough away from me so they didn't actually hit me.  I refuse to put a helmet on before work!  I'm not going that far or that fast to walk in to work with helmet hair.  I mean, what would my clients think?  I don't want to know.  I'm not about to risk losing clientele just for safety purposes.  So here it stands, I can take either University with crazy amounts of rude drivers who, I swear, try to run me over when I'm in a car! or I can take 6th St which is directly through the middle of the ghetto.  I'm talking serious trouble here.

I chose 6th street.  I think I would prefer to die by a stray bullet rather than direct impact of a car.  There might be more the doctors could do to save me that way too.

Why you gotta go there?

I want to go somewhere.  I don't know where, but somewhere.  Ok, I'll settle for not going anywhere if everyone could just please stop showing me all your great travel pictures and blogging about all your great vacations and stuff.  GOSH!  Have a heart!  Girl can't go anywhere right now, alright?!
