A Moment of Contemplation

As I was sitting in Sacrament Meeting today during church, I found myself having a renewed desire to start again reading the Book of Mormon.  Not just read again, but really study it.  I want to study by subject, and cross reference to really become more familiar with the BoM.  I sometimes get a little embarrassed when I don't know more details or even general references in the stories, especially since I have been born and raised with the Gospel.  So, that's gonna stop right here.  I think this year presents the perfect opportunity for me to take on this area of study considering the fact that in Relief Society/Priesthood we are studying Gospel Principles.  Perfect, right?!  I think so!

If you'd like to join me, but don't have a Book of Mormon of your own, just visit this address:  www.mormon.org  and click on "request a copy", it's free!

BTW, on Saturday I really really needed to do my color retouch, but was super tired after work and didn't want to put the time in to do my hair.  That was a problem though, because if I didn't do my color on Saturday, then I probably wouldn't get to it for another two weeks.  I couldn't do that to myself, my roots were awful!  So, as I stood there by the front desk contemplating whether or not to do my roots, Shalise asked if I was finished and what I still doing there.  I explained my predicament, and she offered to put my color on for me if I wanted her to.  I decided that would give me a little rest before I hopped on my bike to go home, so I accepted her generous offer.

As soon as she finished applying my color, and I finished cleaning the bowl and brush, I looked at the time.  Did I really want to sit there for 30 more minutes and then BEG someone to shampoo my hair?  No.  What did I do?  I picked up my bag, put a towel around my neck on my shoulders to catch running color, and I hopped on my bike and rode home.  Yup, I rode my bike home with color on my hair, hahaha!!

I called my mom to tell her what I did and to laugh at myself a little bit.  She, of course, was out front waiting for me with a camera as I rode up to the house.

ps  I'm never wearing those jeans or shirt EVER again.  I look really fat!!!

I don't want to die. But, if that's my only option, I choose the bullet.

Well, I did it.  I bought my bicycle, and I LOVE it!!!  The kind people of Bicycle Haus in Scottsdale, AZ were so kind and helped me tremendously when choosing which bike would be best.  I decided finally on the Nirve Wispy Cruiser.  Seriously?  It is rediculously cute.  AND, I added a bell and a basket to the front.

I have started riding it to work which has been an adventure to say the least.  Lets just put it this way: no matter which route I decide to take, on whichever day it might be, I still have to go through a bit of ghetto to get there.  So, I decided since there was no other way around it, I should choose to go the way around the temple.

The first day I had my bike, I decided to take a test ride to work, just to clock about how much time I was going to need to plan for my commute to work.  Well, since I live only about 1.5-2 miles away from said location, I figured it would take me at most twice as long as it would take to drive, which would be about 20 minutes.  And that's figuring adding a little bit of time considering traffic and whatnot (yes, I just said whatnot).  Well, I would be wrong.  IT TOOK ME ABOUT 40 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!  WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!  Well, this was just not going to work for me.  Not only did it take far too long, but I felt like my legs were going to fall off.  How could this be?  It's not like I rode super hard, or for that matter, it wasn't like I just finished a tri-athelon!!!  Well, because I was so exhausted, I decided to take the most direct route home, regardless of how much traffic I might encounter.  I didn't care.  I just wanted to get home and take a shower and lay down.  This leg of my trip took me only about 15 minutes!  How on earth did I shave so much time off?!  I didn't pedal really fast or hard, I was too sore and tired.  I didn't use magic to "blink" my way back.  I don't think I even read the clock wrong or just forgot ( I know this because to make sure of this, I texted people at specific parts of my journey so I could go back and check my timing).

Well, because of my serious problem of time here, I decided there was really only one choice I had here. Riding my bike by the temple on side roads was no longer an option.  I had to ride my bike on University, with little to no bike lane, and just pray that the drivers passing me would slow down around me so as not to knock me over with the wind they create by going so fast.  Or just stay far enough away from me so they didn't actually hit me.  I refuse to put a helmet on before work!  I'm not going that far or that fast to walk in to work with helmet hair.  I mean, what would my clients think?  I don't want to know.  I'm not about to risk losing clientele just for safety purposes.  So here it stands, I can take either University with crazy amounts of rude drivers who, I swear, try to run me over when I'm in a car! or I can take 6th St which is directly through the middle of the ghetto.  I'm talking serious trouble here.

I chose 6th street.  I think I would prefer to die by a stray bullet rather than direct impact of a car.  There might be more the doctors could do to save me that way too.

Why you gotta go there?

I want to go somewhere.  I don't know where, but somewhere.  Ok, I'll settle for not going anywhere if everyone could just please stop showing me all your great travel pictures and blogging about all your great vacations and stuff.  GOSH!  Have a heart!  Girl can't go anywhere right now, alright?!

Runner, what?

I am proud to announce: I am the newest registered runner of the SheZoni Run 2010!!  I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared.  I am not a runner.  At. All.  I might even be experiencing heart palpitations right now just thinking about it.  Ugh!  Why do I do this to myself?  I will tell you, however, I am excited at the same time.  I used to run.  By run, I mean a slight jog that was so slow most speed walkers could pass me by and finish any kind of distance much faster that I.  That being said, when I "ran", I loved it.  I felt the fresh ocean air enter my lungs and the soft pavement below my tennis shoes as I dodged the fast passing cars on the Kam Highway.  Oh, did I forget to mention this was when I was in college.  It is much easier to run in Hawaii.  Period.  It's actually enjoyable there!  Like I said there's fresh air, beautiful scenery, and unless your playing in the ocean or laying leisurely by it, there's nothing else to do!  So, I ran.  Let's see, that was about 9, yes that's NINE, years ago!!  Aaahhhhh!

You may be asking yourselves (the possible 3 of you who might stumble on to my blog) "what has brought on this sudden interest in running?"  Well, sudden is probably the wrong word to use.  Like I mentioned before, I used to run and enjoy it.  I've been considering in recent months getting started again at it.  I've been hearing of friends and clients alike, who have started running, kinda out of nowhere.  It's inspired me!  I guess you could say all you runners out there have lit a small fire under my butt! (even if that small fire may only be burning coals, and not an actual flame producing fire)  But, what really got me going, were two of my sisters.  About three weeks ago Jennifer and Stephanie participated in their very first 1/2 marathon!!  THEY ARE ROCKSTARS!!!  First of all, one year ago, neither of them were runners.  Jennifer would get up every morning and get on her treadmill and walk for days, but run?  No, she was a professional walker, and crazy strong intense work-outer.  Stephanie liked going to the gym, but I don't really know how intense she worked out.  All I know, is a few years ago when I would occasionally go to the gym with her, it wasn't exactly kill your body hard.  We got a good workout in, it just wasn't KILLER. I know she stepped it up, I just didn't know exactly how "stepped-up" until she told me she was going to run.  They are FREAKS! but rockstars nonetheless.  Now, I can't let them show me up like that!  I've got to get myself in shape and run a full marathon!  How do you like that for competition?!  hahahah!  I'm totally kidding!! (kinda)

I will keep you posted on my quest to become a runner, for sure!  If I don't, I will most likely fail miserably.  So I ask of you this: Please please please, ask me about it!!  Make me tell you all about my misery while running, the pain, the joy, and even the embarassing moments when I trip and fall ever so gracefully.

Next step:  register for Pat's Run.  (I know, it's a little out of order considering Pat's Run is one week before the SheZoni Run.  But, give me a break!  It's an entire mile longer!!)

Distractions

Sometimes it is really hard for me to focus when I am sitting in church.  My mind races all over the place, except whatever the lesson is on.  Today was one of those days.  In Sunday school, I couldn't focus on anything except the hot boy sitting two rows in front of me.  I mean, really, he IS that hot.  Then relief society came along, and I was fine!   Whatever.

Tax Time!

Yes, the new year is here upon us (or rather, has started), which means...

TAX TIME!!!!

I usually procrastinate as long as I possibly can, and wait til the last minute to get my taxes taken care of.  I don't know why, I guess it's just a pain to have to organize everything, and I also hate to have to pay someone else to do them but I don't know how so I brake down and pay someone anyway, after I've gone through and organized everything.  I vow every year when I get everything in to my CPA that the following year will be different and I won't wait as long.  Then, the next year comes around, and nothing changes--I continue to procrastinate the inevitable.

Well, I am here to tell you that THIS year will be different.  I have already started to organize everything to take it in.  This is, I think, by far the earliest I've gotten started on it, hahaha!!  You may be asking yourself at this point, "What is it? Why is this year different?  Where is Sabrea getting her motivation?"  I kinda ask myself the same questions, and I have a couple answers for them:

1.  I am just sick and tired of waiting til the last minute and the stress that goes along with getting everything in on time.

AND....

2.  This year I have an exciting prize, you might say, awaiting my purchase! (which I'll use part of my return for, of course)

A SCHWINN CRUISER!!

It will be complete with a basket on the front, for Elphee to take rides with me,
and a cute bell on the handlebars.

I can't wait to start riding my bike to work every day!!
